Is it Sodium, or, Chloride
I have been reading a couple of articles that propose that hypertension my not be caused by excess sodium in the system at all. One study (Science, Vol 223, Issue 4643, 1430-1432) was able to show that chloride versus sodium could be the culprit in high blood pressure. Take a look:
“After 1 week on these diets and until the end of the study the rats receiving high concentrations of sodium chloride had higher systolic blood pressures than the rats in the other two groups. There were no statistically significant group differences in plasma volume, arterial pH, or plasma concentrations of Na+, K+, Cl-, Ca2+, or creatinine, or in renomedullary prostaglandin E2 production.”
I will continue to explore this possibility as I try to find ways to lower my own bp without having to resort to drugs or motst any other type of medical treatment.
