[...]]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Adversities can make you stronger. They are not your enemy. In life and personal development ,adversities are proof that an enemy exists. Adversities are opportunities for promotion, personal growth and a platform for life training.</p><p>If not for Goliath, David wouldn’t have stayed a lowly shepherd boy.  By besting Goliath, David became a phenomenal King! A rodeo rider wants the meanest bull he can get!  He’ll get a better score.  You need to keep in mind, that it’s not what you are going “through” that is of prime importance but it’s what you are going “to” that matters! Adversity will make you stronger if you let it!</p><p>Wilma Rudolph was the 20th of 22 children. She was born prematurely and the doctors didn&#8217;t expect her to survive. But she did, at the age of 4 she contracted double pneumonia and scarlet fever, which left her with her left leg paralyzed.</p><p>One beautiful Sunday at the age of 9 she detached the metal leg brace she had relied on for the past five years and began walking down the aisle of her church.</p><p>By age 13, she had learned a rhythmic walk, which doctors said was a miracle. That same year, she was determined to begin running. Thus she entered her first race but came in last.</p><p>She came in dead last for the next three years, in every race she entered. But, she persisted on running until the day came that she won a race.</p><p>She became more determined than ever and in 1958, she began college at Tennessee State University and became a member of Ed Temple’s “Tigerbelles” track team. In 1960, she was able to set a world record for the 200 meter dash during the Olympic trials.</p><p>Eventually, the little girl who was not supposed to live and then who was not supposed to be able to walk would win three Olympic gold medals</p><p>Her great testimony was a direct result of her great test since she absolutely refused to let her adversity deny her dreams.  It is an established fact that you can’t run before you walk. You can’t sing before you talk.  There is a natural progression to growth.</p><p>Everybody wants those great testimonies.  But I’m here to tell you, you can’t have a testimony until you’ve had a test. Let’s look at some of the lyrics from a song I wrote that I think are pertinent to our discussion.</p><p>The victor’s crown only goes to those who’ve been in war. Eagles can’t stay in their nest if they want to soar.</p><p>Sitting on the side lines you’ll never be your best. You can’t have a testimony ‘til you’ve had a test.”</p><p>And the chorus goes,</p><p>A seed must die, and be buried before it has success. You can’t have a testimony till you’ve had a test.</p><p>Isn’t that like life?  Listen to the next verse.</p><p>“God won’t send thirsty people to an empty well. Heaven’s cup sure is sweeter once you’ve tasted hell.</p><p>There’s no wine until the grape had gone through the press. You can’t have a testimony ‘til you’ve had a test.</p><p>Some of you want that sweet fragrance of wine. You want your life to be like a fine wine getting better with age. But, you can’t have the “wine” until the “grape’- your life, your struggles &#8211; has gone through the press.</p><p>Challenges can cause the muscles to grow. Think about this &#8230; you wouldn’t be what you are today unless you had walked through what you’ve had to walk through. You had to deal with those adversities. Unless you had known what it’s like to fail &#8230; unless you’ve tasted the bitter cup you won’t understand the sweetness of success when it comes. And it will come!</p><p>It’s how you “re”act that will help determine your destiny…It’s not how you act in the midst of adversity.</p><p>Before the on set of the Civil War, Edmund McIlhenny operated a sugar plantation and a saltworks on Avery Island, Louisiana. Yankee troops invaded the area in 1863, and McIlhenny had to flee. When he returned in 1865, his sugar fields and salt works were ruined.</p><p>One of the few things left were some hot Mexican peppers that had reseeded themselves in the kitchen garden. McIlhenny, who was living hand to mouth, started experimenting with the ground peppers to make a sauce that would liven up his dull diet. His new found sauce is known today as Tabasco sauce. To this day, over a hundred years later, the McIlhenny Company and its Tabasco business is still run by the McIlhenny family.</p><p>He allowed his adversity to build him rather than break him. It has become a trite saying none the less it’s true &#8230; when life gives you lemons &#8230; make lemonade!</p><p>Did you know that when a baby chick is born and you try to help it by taking off the shells that you are probably dooming that chick.  Because the struggle to free itself it what develops it’s lungs and muscles.  The fight to survive keeps it alive. There are battles we must fight if we are to live!</p><p>Often times when our struggles seem lost and we face criticism, we have to realize that the only way we can avoid it easily is by saying nothing, doing nothing and being nothing!</p><p>Think about this &#8230; The higher we fly the smaller we appear to those who choose to stay on the ground!</p><p>Here’s some free advice &#8230; a freebee from Eby &#8230; Don’t talk to cynics and don’t address critics.</p><p>It’s like this, folks, sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through all our life without any obstacles, that would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. As spiritual being of renowned benevolence he gave us the will power to decide what would be fitting to our self worth, our personal mission and choose our path based on these assumptions.</p><p>Don’t let adversity break you.  Make up your mind to break through!</p><p>Adversities can make you stronger. Recent research has also shown that people who [...]]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p> </p><p>Can you really think yourself thinner, fitter and healthier?</p><p> </p><p>Well apparently yes!</p><p> </p><p>The idea that we attract what we think about most is not a new one and most self help/philosophy texts have something along this line as one of their themes.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Recent research has also shown that people who were made to visualise themselves exercising (but not actually doing any) gained almost as much muscle strength as those who actually did the exercise!!</p><p> </p><p>Now this is no excuse for becoming lazy, we do still need to do the actual exercise, but it gives us an idea of just how powerful our brains are. </p><p> </p><p>So how can we put this to our advantage? </p><p> </p><p>Well I’ll be honest, it does take practise.  But here are a few tips to help you on your way to slimness……</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Think about this slim, fit, healthy you daily and as much as you can.  (Please don’t blame me when the boss tells you off for day dreaming though!)</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Never ban foods or think you are ‘bad’ for having a supposedly unhealthy food.  If you keep thinking ‘I mustn’t eat chocolate’  all you will think about is that bar of chocolate.  And as our brains are picturing this, you will want it even more. </p><p> </p><p>Replace these thoughts with thoughts about all the healthy foods you enjoy, juicy pineapples, crunchy apples, a succulent piece of salmon…&#8230;  Imagine yourself eating this kind of food regularly and feeling satisfied and full after your meals.</p><p>Writing down your goals is very powerful.  Again keep them realistic, but be specific. </p><p> </p><p>Just saying, ‘I want to lose a stone’, isn’t good enough.  Replace with something like ‘I want to lose a stone over the next 2 months’.  (This is also a realistic weight loss of about 2lb per week.)</p><p> </p><p>Make sure your goals are positive.  ‘I don’t want to be fat anymore’, or, ‘I don’t want to eat junk food’, simply won’t work.  Replace them with ‘I want to have a slim healthy body’, ‘I want to enjoy healthy foods’.</p><p> </p><p>Write these goals down and re read them frequently.</p><p> </p><p>Psychologists estimate it takes between 20 and 30 days to change our mind set.  So you will need to work at this one, but it is well worth it.</p><p> </p><p>Stop criticising how you look and feel now, think about what you are becoming.  Beating yourself up over last nights Chinese won’t help you move forward.  Instead accept the negative thoughts (even people who are excellent ‘positive thinkers’ have negative thoughts sometimes!), let them pass and replace them with positive thoughts. </p><p> </p><p>Lastly, always do this for you.  If you want to change your body for your boyfriend, girlfriends, mum, colleagues or dog it won’t work.  You are doing this for YOU and how YOU feel about your own body. </p><p> </p><p>Work on keeping your self esteem high NOW, no matter what you look like.  Get your hair done, but a new lippy, have a pedicure or massage.  Whatever it takes, and in the words of L’Oreal, you are worth it!!</p><p> </p><p>So put your brain to work and practise thinking yourself thin from today!</p><p> </p><p>Now you are imagining yourself cooking and eating delicious healthy food, here is a recipe to get you started.</p><p> </p><p>Stuffed Peppers</p><p> </p><p>If you think lentils are for hippies and students, think again, these are delicious, low fat and simple to make.</p><p> </p><p>Turn on your oven to 200.</p><p> </p><p>Finely chop an onion and lightly fry in a little olive oil for 5 minutes or so.</p><p> </p><p>Add a teaspoon of garlic in a jar (or a couple of chopped cloves) and a good dash of Worcester or Soy sauce.  Fry for another minute or so.</p><p> </p><p>Add a couple of handfuls of red lentils and stir.  Pour in about a mug and a half of vegetable stock and bring to the boil.  Stir and add a few dried herbs – I like Italian seasoning but basil, oregano, rosemary all work well.</p><p> </p><p>Simmer for about 25 minutes until the lentils are soft and have absorbed the stock.  If the mixture becomes too dry, add a extra splash of water.</p><p> </p><p>Meanwhile cut a couple of peppers in half length ways.  Leave the stalk on but scoop out the seeds.</p><p> </p><p>Chop a matchbox size piece of feta into small cubes.</p><p>When your lentil mixture is done (no excess liquid but softish lentils) stir in the cubed feta cheese.</p><p> </p><p>Pile this mixture into the peppers and bake on about 200 for 20 minutes or so.</p><p> </p><p>Serve with a large mixed salad.</p><div

If we can make our ROUTINE something that is healthy and promotes weight loss, then we can stop worrying about being motivated and simply do our “normal routine” and lose all the weight we want.</p><p>Below are 5 simple tips that you can begin implementing as part of your daily routine to help you lose all the fat you want.</p><p>1. Always East Breakfast &#8211; Many time, those on a diet choose to skip breakfast thinking that the lack of calories will lead to weight loss. The fact is, when you DON’T eat, your body goes into survival mode and it tries to store the calories you eventually eat as fat. So, your plan actually ends up backfiring and you gain weight, not loseit.</p><p>2. Steam your veggies &#8211; When you sauté your vegetables in butter, you allow them to soak up all the bad fat making your once healthy veggies little piece of fat stuffed junk. Instead, just steam them and top with a dash of salt and pepper. All the flavor of the vegetables will be there without the fat.</p><p>3. Stop Late night snacking &#8211; If you are going to sleep, you DON’T need extra calories. Fight off those late night cravings by having a glass of warm tea before bed instead of those cookies or pie. Eat healthy when you are hungry, then stop &#8211; Your body is designed to tell you when it is full. Most of the time, it is our cravings and overindulgence that allows us to keep eating long after our bodies tell us we are full. Listen to what your body is telling you and just eat to the point that you are satiated. This amount will be the perfect amount for your body to have the energy it needs without excess calories that will be stored as fat. It is ok to eat multiple times during the day as long as the food is healthy. This helps to keep your metabolism working.</p><p>5. Move as much as you can &#8211; Yes, this means EXERCISE! If you can walk versus ride, do it! Jog wherever you go. The more steps you can include in your daily routing, the more calories you will burn. Add to this a regular program of vigorous exercise such as jumping rope, running, or weight training and you can burn thousands of extra calories per week. Then just drizzle over the salad.</p><p>Â </p><p>Low-Fat Cottage Cheese Omelette</p><p>Ingredients</p><p>2 eggs, separated</p><p>1/4 cup low-fat cottage cheese dash of pepper</p><p>1/2 tbsp. dried parsley</p><p>Non-stick spray oil</p><p>Instructions</p><p>Spray the skillet with cooking spray. Next, beat the egg whites until its stiff, but not dry. Beat the yolks separately until it becomes lemon colored and thick. Add the cottage cheese and pepper and beat until you get a smooth texture. Fold in the egg whites and parsley.</p><p>Place the mixture in the skillet and cook over medium heat until it becomes lightly browned on the bottom and fluffy. Do this for about 3 to 4 minutes. Then place the mixture in the oven for and heat for 15 minutes. Make a crease down the centre of the omelette with a knife and fold over. Some restrict you to only drinking a special formula up to 6 times a day where as others allow you to eat as much as you want as long as you eat healthy unprocessed foods. Many make the mistake of making their first detox experience a fluid only diet. Fluid only diet are renowned to be very hard to complete and are not recommended for those new to the world of detoxification.</p><p>Many also make the mistake of switching directly from their normal diet to a detox diet. It is advisable to wind down from your normal diet over a period of a few weeks gradually reducing junk foods and caffeine etc before you start your detox diet.</p><p>Many of those who do partake in detoxification do have withdrawal symptoms. These can include, feeling light headed, feeling week and in some cases nausea. Most symptoms do though pass after a couple of days.  One of the hardest detox diets to complete is the Lemon Detox Diet.</p><p>There is no need to pay a fortune for the Lemon Detox Diet drink as you can make it yourself in a minute or so for a fraction of what it would cost you to buy in off the shelf. D.A.S.H. stands for (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension). It’s also the basis for the new USDA MyPyramid. The foundation of the DASH diet is probably not news to you. It involves things like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low saturated fats. Like I said, “It’s not glamorous”! Read on for a more in depth look at the new and improved diet that’s heart healthy and did I mention it can help shed unwanted weight and protect against cancer?</p><p>The foundation of a heart healthy diet is:</p><p>Total fat: 27%</p><p>Saturated Fat: 6%</p><p>Protein: 18%</p><p>Carbohydrates: 55%</p><p> It also has no more than 2300 mg of sodium per day (1500mg is better), and at least 30 grams of fiber. If you’re like me, this means very little to you and you’d rather just know what foods to eat and which ones to avoid. So I’ll put the DASH diet on the bottom shelf for you.</p><p>Foods To Eat:</p><p>Oily fish and/or lean protein is important. Salmon, tuna and mackerel are abundant in omega-3 fatty acids, which have been proven to improve the elasticity of your blood vessels and can also thin the blood protecting against clots. Chicken and turkey breast are always good choices of protein if fish is not your forte’.</p><p>Fruits and Vegetables are high in antioxidants which protect against heart disease by neutralizing damaging free radicals in your blood vessels. It is a proven way to aid your body’s defenses against atherosclerotic heart disease. Fruits and vegetables are also naturally high in fiber, which have a cleansing effect.</p><p>Nuts and Seeds are rich in the good fats (unsaturated) and more importantly high in vitamin E, which protects against “bad” fats (saturated/trans). Nuts fill you up and are a great alternative for a healthy snack.</p><p>Foods To Avoid:</p><p>Fried Foods are among the worst foods for your heart. They are high in saturated fats, which raise cholesterol. Most people are aware of the health risks involved with fast food, but restaurant food can be just as bad for you.</p><p>Red Meat has gotten a bad reputation for a good reason. The marbled cuts are worse and carry with them a higher concentration of fat. Try limiting your intake to once a week or less if you can, and trim as much fat as possible before cooking.</p><p> I think most people are not surprised at the advice above, but have a hard time implementing these practices into their every day life. But sodium (more commonly known as salt) will make you retain water which will make you look bloated and weight heavier. If you give it sometime, the weight will settle back to normal. But it&#8217;s better to not have to get to this point anyways. Plus, too much sodium can increase your blood pressure which is something you want to avoid in general. So here are some ways to decrease the amount of sodium/salt in your diet so that you can keep the weight off.</p><p>1) Decrease the amount of salt you add to your food during the cooking process. Make sure to measure the amount you&#8217;re using if you&#8217;re following a recipe so you don&#8217;t go overboard. A dash here and there can add up quickly, so be sure to watch it.</p><p>2) Instead of using salt, try different herbs, spices, fruits, juices, and vinegars to add taste and flavor to your food.</p><p>3) If you gradually start cutting back on the salt, your taste buds will re-adjust so that you won&#8217;t need to flavor things so intensely with salt. After about 2 weeks, your taste for salty foods will be different, and you won&#8217;t even miss it.</p><p>4) Add fresh or frozen fruits or vegetables to your dishes. These not only have less sodium in them in general, but they tend to be packed with many nutrients your body can use if you&#8217;re trying to lose weight.</p><p>5) Canned foods are notorious for containing a lot of salt. So choose lower sodium versions, or reduced sodium versions. You might even consider rinsing them off before using them to get all the salt off.</p><p>6) Pre-packages or processed foods, like the canned food example above, also then to be loaded with extra sodium as a cheap way to flavor food. Beware! Just like above, opt for the decreased sodium version of a product if one is available.</p><p>7) Condiments like soy sauce, ketchup, mustard, etc.. also tend to be high in sodium. So use condiments in moderation.</p><p> <img

A hint might be if they have the following in the title, &#8220;smoked, pickled, au jus, soy sauce, in broth, etc..&#8221;</p><p>There are numerous other ways you can decrease salt from the diet to help you lose weight. The above is a start, but paying attention to the amount of salt in your food from now on will not only help you lose weight, but will also server your long term health for years to come.</p><div
