About

I am a 46 year old guy who was diagnosed with high blood pressure when I was 45.  I am 5′11″ and weight about 185 pounds. I play basketball and walk on a fairly regular basis. In fact, I was a lacto-ovo vegetarian for approximately 15 years and didn’t drink at all until I was about 37 years old. And even then, I was only a very, very moderate drinker having a beer with the guys while watching a game every other week or sometimes having a glass of wine when dining out. Yet, my blood pressure last night when I took it was 164/101! And thats while I am taking Benicar for BP control.

I work in health care and have been interested in wellness and health for the last 20 years and I am not the type to run to the doctor unless there is really something  wrong or that I can’t figure out myself. I have always believed that the human body, as well as the whole human being, is designed for self correction. What I mean by that is that if people learn how to work with their bodies, then the body and being will seek to balance itself. It happens with colds, cuts, and broken bones. We really don’t have to do a whole lot except keep things clean. The body takes care of the rest.

Now, imagine my amazement when I was diagnosed with HTN. Imagine my amazement when my BP was not controlled by meds. Imagine how I felt when I would watch the doctor scratch his head trying to figure out how to best treat me.

So I started doing some research into what causes HTN and how best to treat it. I know that I can’t be the only one out there who is in this same boat.  Enjoy reading. Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.
