Do you know how sleep apnea occurs? It is a type of sleeping problem accompanied by snoring. It is so common but the sufferers will not know the severity of his problems. It is caused by restricted amount of oxygen in the sufferer’s brain or sometimes he may stop breathing for a few seconds. In order for him to breath normal again, he has to wake up. This may happen many times in one night. It can occur when the muscles in his throat relax and the airway becomes tightened.
The signals sent to control our breathing is controlled by our brain. The type of sleep apnea we are looking at now is related to interrupted signals sent by the brain to control our breathing. When this happens, the person will wake up for a while due to the shortage of oxygen. This process is repeated for so many times in a night. It is also common for some patients to have sleep apnea due to lack of oxygen and the tightening of the throat muscles.
There are treatments for sleep apnea, and a doctor may suggest a sleep apnea machine that will help a patient through the night.
What Is A Sleep Apnea Machine?
Sleep apnea in the first place causes the patients to suffer from lack of sleep. Therefore the doctor will usually recommend a sleep apnea machine. The most common type that are used for this purpose is a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure which is a big sleep apnea machine. A mask is placed over the nose, so when the patients is sleeping oxygen is pumped steadily through the mask.
Another type of sleep apnea treatment is an oral device that is constructed to fit into a patient’s mouth that pulls the jaw forward and again prevents the throat from closing. This type of device is smaller and easier to use than the larger sleep apnea machine but it can take some trial and error to make it work correctly.
Don’t give up using the sleep apnea device which is recommended by your doctor, if you find it uncomfortable to use. What you must do is consult your doctor first and inform him of your problem using the device, but don’t just stop. It can be treated but you have to be patient, only if all non-surgical means fail only then surgery will be your other option.
A appropriate treatment for a patient with sleep apnea, which is a serious condition can only be studied after he has been evaluated by a doctor.
